Since 2022, CFAO Motors Uganda has partnered with UNHCR and Toyota Tsusho Corporation to train refugee youth under a six-month traineeship programme. The partnership aims to provide refugees with practical skills in the automobile industry, through hands-training at different CFAO workshops located across the country.

The second cohort of the refugee trainess graduated on 15th June 2023, at the CFAO Motors Namanve Head Office. Each of the 8 graduates was presented with a certificate of Motor Vehicle Mechanic Occupation from The Directorate of Industrial Training, a quality assurance directorate that assesses and awards the Uganda Vocational Qualifications Framework. The trainees were also each presented with a fully kitted mechanical toolbox to support their endeavours in pursuing an automotive career.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony, Futsum Hailom, the Technical Training Manager at CFAO Motors, commended the trainees for the great work, passion and resilience displayed throughout the 6-month training, and encouraged them to maintain the same mentality attitude throughout their careers.

According to UNCHR, Uganda is Africa’ s largest refugee hosting country with over 1.5 million refugees and asylum seekers registered in the Office of the Prime Minister’ s (OPM) Biometric Identity Management System (BIMS).
